Gemini Signs Bitcoin Sponsorship Deal with Real Bedford Football Club
Gemini has announced a five-year sponsorship agreement with Real Bedford Football Club, with payments made in Bitcoin to support the club's growth and enhance local youth access to football. This sponsorship complements a $4.5 million investment made in April 2024 by billionaire twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, co-founders of Gemini.
The previous investment turned the Winklevoss brothers into co-owners of the club, alongside McCormack, who purchased the club in 2022. Under the new agreement, Gemini will continue as the primary sponsor, with its logo appearing on Real Bedford's team kits and stadium.
The funds will help build a new training center and establish a football academy for disadvantaged children in Bedford, a town in Bedfordshire, England, where McCormack was born.
Real Bedford, which already holds its funds in Bitcoin, will have the sponsorship payments made directly to its Bitcoin treasury. McCormack commented, "We've integrated Bitcoin into our financial strategy and earned over 62% in profits, which strengthens our financial position and protects the club from recent inflation."
The club has fully adopted Bitcoin, allowing players to receive salaries in cryptocurrency, and fans can buy tickets and merchandise with Bitcoin. Although Gemini declined to disclose the exact value of the sponsorship, it confirmed that Real Bedford is its sole sports sponsorship. Recently, Gemini paid a $37 million fine, refunded over $1 billion to clients, and compensated $2.18 billion to Gemini Earn users. Trading volume has also exceeded $37 million in the past 24 hours, indicating Gemini's recovery following the FTX crisis.
